How to enable Sunshine Act reporting

This article describes how to Sunshine Act reporting field requirements

What is the Sunshine Act?

In the U.S., the Physician Payment Sunshine Act ("Sunshine Act") stipulates that applicable manufacturers report payments and other transfers of value to "covered recipients", defined as physicians, teaching hospitals, physician assistants and advance practice nurses (nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse anesthetists, and certified nurse-midwives).

Engraffo allows publishers the ability to turn on our Sunshine Act reporting form so that U.S.-based life science customers can collect user data from healthcare practitioners (HCPs) and report that information to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). When enabled, the reporting form will appear in front of any HCP attempting to access the Project link. There is an optional bypass mechanism that can also be enabled, in case a Project link is expected to reach HCPs outside of the US or non-covered recipients (disabling this mechanism will force the HCP to complete the form).

What data fields are available?

The following data fields are available on our Sunshine Act reporting form:

  • Email (always required)

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Credential

  • License Number

  • National Provider Identifier Number

  • Profession

  • Taxonomy

  • Street Address

  • City

  • State

  • Zip Code

Aside from the Email field, each of the fields can be set to one of the following criteria:

  • Required

  • Optional

  • Do not ask for (when this is chosen, the field will disappear)

Publishers can enable Sunshine Act reporting and set these data field designations during New Project creation. Similarly, the report can be enabled and the data field designations can be edited at any time from the Project page.

How to edit the Sunshine Act reporting data fields

To edit the data field designations, simply click on the Manage Project button from your Project page and scroll down to the bottom. This is also where you can require (or not require) form completion.
